Design Tips from Rachel - Part 6

Have you ever found yourself staring at a blank wall, wondering what artwork would bring your room to life?  Or tossed and turned, trying to decide on the perfect palette for your bedroom?

Well, you’re in luck! These two common design struggles are the topics of our latest Design Tips From Rachel, where I tackle your most pressing interior design questions.

Question 1: I’m struggling to choose a piece of artwork for my room. What do you recommend?

Choosing one large piece of art for a space can be overwhelming. It seems like such a big commitment. I like to think outside of the box, like having this Hermes scarf (above) framed for a clients’ guest room.

Don’t have a statement scarf to frame? Have lots of smaller paintings but can’t figure out how to use them? Salon walls are a good alternative and can be the perfect way to pull together several different smaller pieces you love in one spot in your home.

Of course, you can also go with less traditional artwork like these gorgeous framed heirloom porcelain plates in our client’s dining room.

Question 2: What colors do you recommend for a bedroom?

While no color is wrong, and the color scheme of a bedroom can significantly impact our mood and ability to unwind. For this reason, I usually opt for soothing and neutral colors, such as soft blues, gentle greens, and warm neutrals, to create a tranquil atmosphere. These colors promote a sense of relaxation and help to create a peaceful ambiance conducive to rest.  Of course, you can also do a moody gray like the one above!

Here are some my favorite bedrooms in our clients’ homes:
