Home Redesign (Tour) - Part 4

We are wrapping up this tour with our client’s media room transformation, and I know you’ll love it. Before we talk about all of the new details in this space, here’s a glimpse at what the room looked like before our team worked their magic:

The good news: This room already had incredible natural light and some quality furniture pieces our clients liked and wanted to keep. Our mission was to bring more color and personality to the space to truly convert it into a media room our clients loved spending time in!

The first question was one that has plagued homeowners for decades: To paint or not to paint the woodwork. This room already had fantastic wooden built-ins we planned to keep. When the paint-or-not-to-paint dilemma fell to our team, we chose to incorporate a gorgeous new color for this piece.

Now, I know this is a very divisive topic, especially in Louisiana, where cypress wood abounds and is used in most homes.

However, it does have a very specific look, and it was not working for our clients anymore. This particular breed of cypress is called “pecky cypress” – known for its characteristic knots and deep ruts. Given that our clients wanted a space that felt more elevated than rustic, we knew painting the built-ins to blend seamlessly into the walls was the right call.

I must say, we’re pretty pleased with the results…so are our clients!

Of course, we don’t always choose to paint wood. With each client we serve, we consider their unique needs to help them make the call on this and many other choices. It’s just one way we offer some relief from your bustling life.

Beyond painting the wooden built-ins, there were a lot of other ways we infused rich colors into this media room. While we kept the neutral seating, we added vibrant throw pillows, curtains, and a show-stopping, massive ottoman to center the space.

Just how big is that ottoman? Big enough to hold five members of Team RCL!

We also included some whimsy in the artwork featured in the room, such as this stylized portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth by artist Hunt Slonem, a favorite artist of this client.

When we did the big reveal of this space to our clients, they were overjoyed with this transformation! As hoped, we lingered a little longer in this space, taking in the comfy but chic surroundings that lend themselves to a casual night at home! We’re so grateful to our clients for trusting us through this process and excited we could take you on this redesign journey, too.

Thank you so much for spending your month touring this amazing client’s home redesign room by room! If you missed a stop on the journey, be sure to go back and check out the keeping room, dining room, and primary bedroom.
