When you work with our team, you not only get access to our creative brains but also to our tried and tested processes.

I’ve never bought into the idea that highly creative people need to operate in chaos.

Do you remember how Grace’s office on Will & Grace was always a mish-mosh of bolts of fabrics, stacks of drawings, and bins overflowing with samples? Or how the Sugarbaker design firm on Designing Women was a place where lots of gossip was exchanged, but seemingly little work was ever actually done?

Well, that’s definitely NOT what you will find at RCL Interiors. Our offices are quite the opposite! And because of our structure, we can bring high levels of creativity to all of our clients’ homes.

For every type of project, we have a unique process to follow, and in today’s blog post, I’m giving you the inside scoop on the 4 phases we use with our remodeling clients.

PHASE 1: PRELIMINARY

In this first phase, we start things off with your design consultation. In addition to chatting about your project and budget, we’ll ask questions to learn about your tastes, your lifestyle, and how you intend to use the space.

Then, we hit the ground running with a proposal, contract, and deposit which allows us to get started with the scheduling for your project and your official kick-off meeting! (This is where the fun really begins.)

PHASE 2: DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Carefully considered space planning is crucial to a well-designed space, so we start this phase with your floor plans.

Floor plans allow us to determine what can fit in a space, how it is arranged, and the scale of each piece – as well as the placement of lighting, electrical outlets, and cable access ports.

Once we have finalized the details of your floor plan, the next step is to create the design scheme — including colors, fixtures, flooring, counters, and cabinetry. Wall and floor coverings are also considered, and a lighting plan is developed. Drawings, samples, and pictures are gathered.

In other words, this is where it all comes together and every detail is considered!

This is the phase that eventually allows us to turn this…

PHASE 3: IMPLEMENTATION

While construction is going on, we will work in tandem with your contractor to keep a close watch on the detail work to make sure the design is executed properly and done with the highest quality workmanship.

We will cross-check to make sure everything is underway or has been satisfactorily completed, all concerns have been addressed, and no detail overlooked.

PHASE 4: MAINTENANCE

A deficiencies list consists of all the little things at the end of a project that are left outstanding or need attention (such as paint touch-ups or missing lightbulbs). We’ll go through each room together and compile this list. We’ll make sure it gets taken care of and you won’t be left high and dry!

At the end of a project, we also create a maintenance binder for our clients with cleaning instructions from each vendor or manufacturer so you don’t accidentally damage your beautiful new space by using a harsh cleaner.
