With a careful selection of moody colors, bold patterns, and edgy fabrics, this home became a sanctuary that seamlessly merges fashion and interior design. When my friend, Bonnie Dial, owner of Aria boutique, asked for my help with her home’s redesign, I was beyond flattered.

Known for her great sense of style and the gorgeous merchandising in her store, Bonnie’s taste and love of color have become more evident to me as I’ve faithfully shopped in her carefully curated boutique.

She came to us ready for a redesign in the main living spaces, her office, and the primary bedroom and bathroom – all of which she shares with her husband, two daughters, and their dog, Many. While she already had some stunning and cool pieces, like a gilded Ashley Longshore painting of Audrey Hepburn, I knew it was time to make this space match the vibrant and stylish woman living in it.

“[W]hen I walked into her house for the first time, my immediate thought was that this house was not nearly cool enough for the woman I know.”

The foyer before

As InRegister said, “Taking cues from the clothes that fill the racks at Aria, Rachel’s design for the Dial home prioritizes femininity and boldness. A clean-lined, contemporary edge was necessary to keep the spaces from feeling cramped or overwhelming, but Rachel says she was careful to maintain balance with traditional touches to give the overall design a timeless quality.”

We loved the piece of furniture in the foyer, but I thought the space needed to be a big WOW moment, so we selected a graphic, overscaled wallcovering that adds depth and interest, immediately setting the tone for the rest of the house.

The living room before

The living room is definitely the heart of this home, and while it was comfy, it lacked the personality and vibrancy of Bonnie’s family. We re-worked the entire space, including eliminating the louvered doors that separated it from the office, and installing antique glass sliding doors there instead.

The living room now acts as a cozy and fashionable retreat. To strike the perfect balance between comfort and sartorial elegance, we incorporated plush velvet upholstery in a rich burgundy on the sofas. A leather-wrapped cocktail table anchors the space, and two mid century styled chairs offer a spot for conversation. To complement the furniture, we selected accent pillows in subtle patterns reminiscent of high-end fashion prints. The room is adorned with curated art pieces and accessories that showcase Bonnie’s love for fashion, creating a space that is both inviting and visually stimulating.

The office before

One room that I knew needed to be bold was Bonnie’s home office. When we met at her home for her initial consultation, the space was being used as a playroom/catch-all for lots of things. The space needed to be totally re-worked in order to be a functional office, and I knew I wanted it to be a dramatic space to balance the foyer across the living room. I selected a burgundy paint color for the walls and bookshelves, and when she walked into our schematic design presentation with her nails painted the exact shade of deep burgundy I had in mind, it felt like fate.

The moody hue, custom bookcases, and thoughtful lighting selections transformed this space, once a kids’ playroom, into a creative haven where Bonnie can now work and recharge.

When it came to the primary bedroom, we wanted to create a space where tranquility meets edginess. We kept Bonnie and her husband’s existing bed, but almost everything else got a redesign.

Soft, neutral colors like cream and taupe dominate the space, creating a calming atmosphere, while a light geometric wallpaper adds interest to the walls without being overwhelming. Across the entire back wall, we added drapes made from fabric reminiscent of the iconic Missoni chevron, a nod to Bonnie’s love of the fashion house.

Of course, the primary bathroom was the room that needed the most work out of all the spaces we touched. While it was actually a really nice-looking space before, it was small and cramped and offered no functional storage for the couple.

The primary bathroom before

Here’s what I shared with InRegister, “Originally a one-sink master, additional space was created by taking over some of the couple’s daughters’ bathroom. The Breccia Capraia marble slab makes a statement in the space. Geometric shapes are pulled into this space, creating continuity with the rest of the redesigned rooms, through the floor tile, as well as detailing on the cabinetry.”

We expanded the bathroom to include two vanities with sinks, so now they each have their own space to store things and get ready in the morning. The bathroom boasts mosaic tile flooring that flows directly into the shower in varying shades of black, gold, cream, and burgundy, creating a visually captivating backdrop. Sleek fixtures and minimalistic design elements complete the overall aesthetic, allowing the stone to take center stage.

Bonnie in her re-designed home office

In the realm of interior design, a home that reflects the unique personality and taste of its owner is a true masterpiece. The sartorial aesthetic of this home showcases a harmonious blend of moody colors, bold patterns, and luxurious fabrics. From the impactful foyer to the fashion-forward living room, the creative haven of the office, and the peaceful yet edgy bedroom and bathroom, this home is a testament to the power of design in creating spaces that inspire and reflect individuality. It stands as a reminder that our homes can also be an extension of our personal style, providing us with a haven that celebrates our passions and personalities.
